An Educator’s Sunday

It’s Sunday and I am sitting on my back patio enjoying the gorgeous fall weather. I can’t seem to ignore the guilty feeling though that I should be inside behind my computer preparing for the week ahead. Making agendas, talking points, slide decks… all the things. For teachers, it’s writing the lesson plans, preparing the activities, creating assessments… and the list goes on.

Every Sunday, I have the “Is it worth it?” conversation with myself. Is the sacrifice of time and energy worth it at this time anymore? I always picture former students and former campuses. I picture the faces of educators and leaders on the front lines who inspire me. I picture a reimagined public education system where students are motivated solvers of their own content connected problems.

After lots of internal struggle every Sunday, my heart convinces me to stay in the game. I know it’s worth it. I believe so deeply it’s worth it.

To all the educators out there who are about to take that familiar walk to your laptops this Sunday afternoon. I see you. I think of you. I relate to your struggle. Thanks for the time and energy you willingly give physically, emotionally, and mentally every Sunday because you too have decided “It’s Worth It.”
